James Ruel Hoots, 85, of Greenwood, died May 15, 2015. The son of Herbert Gordon and Abigail Florence Sells Hoots, James was born December 18, 1929 in Hobart, Kentucky.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After 24 years of service, he retired in 1981 as a press operator from Western Electric. He was a member of the former River Avenue Baptist Church and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed farming, hunting and fishing.
James is survived by son, Dwight Hoots of Indianapolis, Randall Hoots of Rushville, Joel (Mary) Hoots of Indianapolis and Brian Hoots of Indianapolis; daughters, Marcia (Lester) Woodslayer of Greenwood and Jennifer Windisch of Indianapolis; sisters, Colene Wallace of Spiceland and Wanda Taylor of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Jason Griffin, Justin Woolslayer, Tara Woolslayer, Daniel Woolslayer, Donna Hoots, Teresa Hoots, Kristin Hoots, Erica Hoots, Beth Inwood Windisch, Andrew Windisch and Lindsay Martin; great-grandchildren, Destiny Woolslayer, Nathaniel Woolslayer, Faith McGulghlin, Christian Rowe, Caleb Rowe, Jacob Woolslayer, Mallory Hoots, Abigail Back, Amber Hoots, Kalyb Hoots and Reagan Woolslayer. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sibbie Velda Finley Hoots; brothers, Clifford Hoots, Waymond Hoots, Alvis Hoots and Harold Hoots and sisters, Vida Jennings, Vera Wallace, Opal Martin and Doris Hoots and son-in-law, Michael Windisch.
Services 11:00 a.m. May 22, 2015 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. May 21, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
