James D. "Jim" Speas, age 87, of Greenwood, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015. Jim was born June 27, 1927 in Whiteland to Edward and Estle (Battin) Speas. He attended Purdue University and graduated from Butler University in 1951. Jim was a member of Greenwood Christian Church, a U.S. Navy veteran, and he was a former Whiteland Town Clerk and a Treasurer for the Whiteland United Methodist Church. Jim was an avid golfer and a past member of B.P.O.E. # 1818 and American Legion Post # 252. Jim was a Field Manager at IBM for over 30 years until his retirement. He married the former Geraldine Brawner and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2009.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Jamie (Ted) Shuel of Franklin and Tracy (Jeff) Smith, of Indianapolis; sister, Anne Roe, of Whiteland; grandsons, Zach, Travis, Andrew and Brian; great granddaughter, Ava. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer''s Association or Wounded Warriors Project.
