James "Jim" Lee Burgess, Indianapolis, IN gained his wings on Friday, January 24, 2025. He was 82 years old. Jim was born in Beech Grove, IN to his parents, Orvall and Thelma Burgess. He attended Arsenal Tech High School. Jim married the love of his life, his wife, Mary (Halcomb) Burgess, on November 1, 1963, and they shared 62 years of marriage together.
Jim worked as an Assembly Inspector for Allison Transmission of GM and retired in 1993 after 27 years of service. Jim enjoyed playing cards and supporting the Cincinnati Reds and IU sports teams. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who seeked out opportunities to spend time with his family. Jim made a point to fuss over his grandchildren and great grandchildren; he was at his happiest when he spent time with them. Jim's fast wit and sense of humor will be dearly missed by those he leaves behind.
Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Burgess; his children, Kimberly (Brian) Lamping and Steven (Heather) Burgess; his daughter-in-law, Wanda Burgess; his grandchildren, Derek, Danielle, Bryce, Cameron, Ciera, Aaron, Alyssa, and Alexis; his great grandchildren, Kennedi, Trevor, Brooklyn, Brooks, Lilliana, and Gwen; his several nieces and nephews.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joey Burgess; his siblings, Bud, Pat, Carol, and Alfreda.
A visitation for Jim will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. The funeral service will be on Friday, January 31, 2025, at 1:30 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 2:30 pm.
