James Curtis Wells, 85, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 at The Masonic Home. Jim was born on January 10, 1926 in Bloomington, IN to the late Verna Curtis and Clara Dell (Smith) Wells. Jim is a 1944 graduate of Bloomington High School. He married his love Deloris Elaine Plew.
Jim was a shipping clerk for Eli Lilly & Company for 38 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Southport Masonic Lodge #270; Murat Shrine; Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis; member of the Indianapolis Christ United Methodist Church; and a Safety Patrolman of the Indianapolis 500 for 35 years. Jim was successful in the adaption of the Storm Warning System in Greenwood as he proudly boosts a certificate of such and was shown on the news for his accomplishment. He loved to travel, especially to Hawaii.
Jim is survived by his loving children: James C. Wells II and Terri Greeno (Tom); 2 grandsons: James C. Wells III and Ben Greeno; 2 granddaughters: Lauren and Leslie Greeno; granddaughter-in-law Anna Greeno; 3 great-grandsons: James C. Wells IV, Mathew Wells, and Max Greeno; and 2 sisters: Virginia Avis Fowler and Velma Jean Thomas.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife Deloris Wells of 64 years; and sister Sylvia Williams.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, August 2, 2011 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood with the funeral service immediately following. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the Indianapolis Christ United Methodist Church.
