Obituary

Jason Joe Bowers, 88, passed away March 2, 2026. He is the youngest son of Hubert and Ila (White) Bowers of Martinsville, IN. He attended Martinsville High School, John Herron Art Institute, and graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington in 1961 with a degree in Education. He spent his career teaching art in the Indianapolis Public School system at Washington High School and the last few years at Broad Ripple High School.

Jason married Twylia (Kennedy) Bowers on January 24, 1960 at Garfield Park United Church of Christ. They raised three sons, Brent, Brian and Barry. Jason was a dedicated teacher and an accomplished artist primarily working in ceramics and jewelry. For many years, he taught jewelry making classes to adults in night classes offered through IPS. He was also a talented craftsman, always involved in home improvement projects. One of his proudest accomplishments was building a cabin on Lake Cordry where he and Twylia hosted many family gatherings. The cabin was aptly named, "The House That Jason Built."

Jason enjoyed traveling; he and Twylia toured Europe, China and several countries in the Caribbean. Jason also traveled to Spain with a mission group to assist with building projects. They enjoyed spending time in Florida, Gatlinburg, and Branson. Following retirement, they were very involved in volunteering with Southland Community Church, where they were members and The Refuge food pantry in Greenwood.

Jason is survived by his wife, Twylia, his brother Phil Bowers, his sons Brian (Kristen) Bowers and Barry Bowers, his granddaughter Rachel (Violet Macdonald) Bowers, and his grandson Aaron (Helen) Bowers, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Brent Bowers, his brother George Bowers, and his sisters Arlene Bowers Thomas and Ellen Jane Bowers Passmore.

Visitation and a celebration of life will be held at Southland Community Church, 5800 W. Smith Valley Road, Greenwood, IN, on Monday, March 9th. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the service will be held at 1:00 pm. A private interment service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Refuge, 1150 S. Park Drive, Greenwood, IN 46143.
