Jay D. Harper, 81, passed away on December 3, 2008 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, Indiana. Jay was born April 26, 1927 in Somerset, Kentucky. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy and was discharged in 1945. Jay moved to Indianapolis from Kentucky at a young age and has been here ever since. Jay and his wife Virginia were married March 13, 1949, and have been happily married for fifty-nine years. Jay was a very active member of the community and was involved in many organizations. He owned and operated his own business, Jay's Moving Company, from 1949 until 2008. He was a very active member of the Villa Oaks Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was previously a Sunday school superintendent and teacher at Hope Baptist Church. Jay worked at the election polls at school 20, he was also active with the Backpacks for kids organization. He was also a member of the Merchants Association of Fountain Square. Jay is survived by his loving wife, Virginia I. Harper; Two sons, Ralph A.(Linda) Wendel of Westfield, IN., and V. J. Harper of Indianapolis; Daughters, Vonda (Bud) Ford, Sherrie (Richard) Cannon both of Greenwood; One brother, Donald Harper of Greenfield; Two sisters, Juanita Herald of Brownsville, KY., Agnes Patterson of Cincinnati, OH.; Eight grandchildren and Twelve Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Henry Frank and Ina Lee Harper; One daughter, Vickie Harper-Guse; Two brothers, Arnold Harper and Rusey Harper; One grandson and one granddaughter. Friends may call at Villa Oaks Baptist Church, 2650 S. Villa Ave., Indianapolis, Indiana, on Friday December 4, from 2 pm until 8 pm. Services will be held at the church on Saturday, December 5 at 10:00 am with Pastor Kevin Willis and Pastor Marvis Hale officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Villa Oaks Baptist Church. Internment will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, 1977 S.
