Obituary

Mrs. Jean Evelyn Houston, Indianapolis. went Home to be with the Lord on the early morning of Tuesday, November 8, 2022. She was 86. Jean was born April 4, 1936 in Guthrie, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Leonard J. and Ethel Mae Cartwright.
Jean was a graduate of Thomas Howe High School in Indianapolis and had been employed with Western Electric where she worked her way up the ladder and earned her promotion of being the secretary to the vice president.
Jean was a faithful member of Mt. Zion General Baptist Church where she was instrumental in producing the church newsletter. She enjoyed getting together and having monthly luncheons with the 'WE' girls. In her leisure time, she enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains of Asheville, North Carolina as well as the east coast. She liked sports, especially golf and watching game shows on television, particularly The Price Is Right, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Press Your Luck among others. Jean was a very intelligent lady and was fluent in French. She also was feisty and a prankster and was the 'comeback queen'.
Jean deeply loved her blended family equally and was the best Grammy ever. Above all, she loved the Lord Jesus Christ.
Jean is survived by her children, Lorna (Mike) Straub, Derek Litteral, Norris Rodney (Dan Forsythe) Houston and Steven W. (Gina) Houston; her grandchildren, Zach (Rachel) Couch, Jessica (Eric) Jones, Amanda (Ryan) Pinzon, Anthony (Allison) Houston, JB (Michelle) Houston, Margo Houston, Ashley (Jason) North, Quinton (Cari) Houston, William Straub and Kari (Adam) Whited; 22 great-grandchildren; her siblings, James William Cartwright and Glenn Thomas Cartwright; her brother-in-law, Paul Louis (Karen) Stephenson as well as several nieces and nephews.
