Mr. Jerry Wayne Wheeler, Indianapolis, passed away on the early morning of January 8, 2021. He was 73. Jerry was born September 30, 1947 in Madison, Tennessee a son of the late Jewell Eugene and Bessie Mae (Downs) Wheeler.

Jerry moved to Indiana as a child with his family and attended Ben Davis High School. He retired from Allison Transmission Division of General Motors Corporation working in production. A proud veteran, he proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army. Jerry was a handyman and could fix or repair most anything.

He was a member of the United Auto Workers (UAW), the American Legion as well as the VFW. He enjoyed riding horses, working in his yard, country music, especially Vern Gosdin, Patsy Cline and Hank Williams, Sr. He also enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts and the Purdue Boilermakers. Watching old westerns starring his hero, John Wayne, was also something Jerry enjoyed a great deal.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann (Nunn) Wheeler; his children, Jennifer (Jay) Hatfull, Angela (Steve) Matney, Jody (Daniel) Wilhoite, John (Angie) Chesney and Gary Chesney; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brothers, Eddie Wheeler, Roger (Aleena) Wheeler and Buddy Young; his sister, Jewell Trump as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in passing by his sisters, Sue McGee and Sandra Holland.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood with Pastor Danny Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Military honors will be offered by a contingent from the United States Army.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until the time of service Thursday at  the funeral home.
