Jimmie D. Birch, age 73, of Greenwood passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012 at St. Francis South Hospital. He was born May 15, 1938 in Tompkinsville, KY to Carlos Denton Birch and Florence Flodina (Pickerel) Birch. Jimmie was a graduate of Tompkinsville High School with the Class of 1956.
Jimmie was a U.S. Army veteran who later went to work for Amtrak as a Railroad man. He was an avid KY Wildcats fan who enjoyed fishing and loved to spend time with his grandson. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, the former Effie Hildenbrand, whom he married on November 1, 1963; son, Byron D. Birch; daughter Tracee J.(Jeffrey) Bullock; sisters, Jeanette (Jimmie) Combs, and Janice (Carroll) Neal; grandson, Trevor Bullock; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 13 at Noon at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood with visitation from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society.
