Obituary

Jimmie Joe Chestnet, 85 of Indianapolis passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. He was born in St. Charles VA in September 1938 to the late Samuel and Nora Chestnut.  He was the 5th born in a family of 8 children.  As a young boy, his snow-white hair earned him the nickname "Cotton".   When Jimmie was a teenager, he moved with his family to Indianapolis .  He served in Korea in the US Army before starting his career as a machinist at Arvin industries, where he worked until retirement.

Jimmy was blessed with three children, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren from his first marriage.  In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, fishing and traveling.  He especially loved long road trips where he could see new parts of the country.  A private but honest man, he always spoke his mind and was appreciated for his directness and sense of humor.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Barbara, his brothers Eugene (Ann) and Fred, his sister, Linda, his children Kimberly (Derek), Jennifer, and Erick (Chrissie), his grandchildren Sadie (Mark), Reis (Hannah), Brock, Bryce, Zachary and Gavin and great grandchildren Ely and Jasper. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents, and his sisters Gertrude, Dorothy, Jeanette, and Brenda.
