Obituary

Mrs. Joan May Garner, Greenwood, passed away on the early evening of Friday, September 24, 2021. She was 85. Joan was born April 8, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the only child of the late Robert Joseph and Mildred (Reeves) McKee.

Joan was a graduate of Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis and retired from Kitchen Renovations as a receptionist.

She enjoyed going on cruises with her husband as well as taking their annual trip to St. Pete Beach, Florida. She and her husband would also make another trip each Fall to Destin, Florida with their good friends, Carl and Kathleen Breitenstein.

Joan was a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was passionate about her grandchildren and never missed a sporting event or school activity in which they were involved. She was an excellent cook and was known for her delicious apple dumplings in the Fall. She always looked forward to the holidays and preparing those large meals for her family. Her Thanksgiving feasts were always looked forward to by the family and she would make sure the meal was absolutely perfect!

Joan was a faithful member of Mount Pleasant Christian Church where she was a member of the choir and also volunteered in the church holiday productions.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Don Garner; her sons, Rick (Kim) Garner and Ron (Joy) Garner; her grandchildren, Meredith (Greg) Hamilton, Michael Garner (fiance, Erin Carter), Dylan Garner (fiance, Madison Bowling), Jeremy (Lindsey) Willey, Jonathan (Ali) Willey; her great-grandchildren, Grayson Hamilton, Isaac Hamilton, Brylee Willey, Brody Willey and McKenna Willey

She was preceded in passing by her parents.

A Memorial Service for Joan will be conducted at 4:00 pm, Monday, October 4, 2021 at Mount Pleasant Christian Church, 381 N. Bluff Road, Greenwood with Pastor David Freeman will be officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until the time of service Monday at the church.

A luncheon will be served for all to join the family immediately following the service at the Student Ministries Center across the street from the church.
