Joan Matoole passed away November 26, 2019.  She was born on May 4, 1933 to Joseph and Valeria (Czyzyk) Vandenberg in Omaha, Nebraska.  Joan married John Matoole, Jr.  on September 8, 1956 in Omaha, Nebraska.  Mrs. Matoole was an avid and great cook.  Joan was a proud member of Hoosiers for Huskers Nebraska Alumni Association Chapter, Faculty Women's Club University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Creighton University Alumni Association.  She was a proud former member and officer of the Greater Omaha Barbecue Society and was a certified barbecue judge. Mrs. Matoole was a retired registered surgery nurse.  Joan was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, but has been a resident of Greenwood, Indiana since 2014.  She was a dog lover, especially Boston terriers and beagles.  Joan is survived by her son, Patrick Matoole, MD of Greenwood, IN; and friend Fr. Justin Belitz, OFM of Indianapolis, Indiana. Mrs. Matoole was preceded in death by her husband, John Matoole, Jr, MD; brothers, Robert Vandenberg, George Vandenberg, and Donald Vandenberg; sisters in law, Pauline Vandenberg, Catherine Vandenberg, and Darlene Vandenberg; and her parents Joseph and Valeria Vandenberg.
