Obituary

Mrs. Joan Artie Sedam, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully  Friday, February 27, 2026, at the age of 82 years.
Joan was born on May 7, 1943, in Jeremiah, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Troy Caudill and Artie (Hampton) Davis. She was raised and educated in Henderson, Kentucky, and in her younger years attended beauty school, a reflection of her lifelong love of looking her best and helping others feel confident.
Joan devoted her life to being a homemaker, a role she embraced with deep love and pride. She cared for her home and family with unwavering dedication, always keeping an immaculate house and taking special care in her appearance whenever she stepped out. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, a testament to her nurturing spirit.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures. Joan loved reading and listening to country and gospel music. She had a natural gift for gardening and took great pride in tending both her outdoor garden and her cherished indoor plants. In recent years, she discovered YouTube and delighted in spending time exploring videos and learning new things. Above all, Joan was known for her unselfish and giving heart. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, offering quiet support, kindness, and encouragement.
Joan is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Darrin and Beth Johnson, Denise and Chuck Benenati; and Duane Johnson; her stepchildren, Cheryl McMorris and Kevin Sedam; her grandchildren, Amber and Bryn Hightower, Steven and Heather Johnson, Nick and Amanda Johnson and Ronnie Trout; as well as her six great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 51 years, Russell Sedam and five siblings.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with Pastor Bob Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
