Mrs. Joan Marie (Pierce) Winkler, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother went Home to be with the Lord on the late evening of Thursday, June 1, 2023. She was 80. Joan was born April 5, 1943 in Springfield, Massachusetts, a daughter of the late Clifford and Florence Smith.
Joan attended William H. Hall High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1962. She had been employed with Aetna Life Insurance Company in Hartford, Connecticut and had worked while living in Indiana with the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School and retired in 2006 after 20 years of service.
Joan was a devoted homemaker, caring for her family and home. She was a nature and dog lover and would feed the birds and ducks that would occasionally come by to visit. She spent some of her leisure time reading, following Indiana University basketball and the Indianapolis Colts. She also enjoyed going to Brown County with her husband and attending car shows.
Joan dearly loved her family. She was proud of each and every one of them and was always supportive of her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and school band activities. She was a down-to-earth and kind lady and was loved by all who knew her. Joan attended Gracepoint Church in Whiteland.
Joan is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Bill Winkler; her children, Eric Winkler and his wife Valerie and Kelly Winkler and her companion, Keith Stofer; her grandchildren, Cody (Kori) Winkler, Morgan (Justin) Bowman, Brandon Bushong, Matthew Bushong, Melissa Bushong and Chris Stofer (companion, Kara Duguay; her great-grandchildren, Dexter Winkler, Brock Bowman, Lili Duguay; Liam Stofer and Wesley Stofer and her brother, Clifford Pierce.
Joan is preceded in passing by her parents.
Funeral services will be private with Pastor Stan Glover officiating, Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
For those choosing to make a memorial contribution in Joan's memory, the family has suggested those be offered to the Indianapolis Humane Society, The Kidney Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
