Joseph Michael Huff, 68, father, retired musician, and dearly-loved teacher passed away in his Indianapolis home on Monday, May 6, 2019.

Cherished son of Beryl and Helen (Park) Huff, Joe was born in Indianapolis on July 26th 1950, and resided most of his life on the south side. He graduated from Manual High School in 1968 and attended Butler University, where he earned his degree in music.

He was a Master Mason at Prospect and Englewood lodges; served as Grand organist for the Grand Lodge of Indiana, was a 33rd degree mason in the Scottish Rite, serving as Dramatic Director for several years; and a  member of the Murat Shrine Club in Indianapolis. He was member of The Continentals, a big band.

For many years, Joe and his family ran a successful music studio, Musical Arts Studio, in Wanamaker (Franklin Township). The small music instruction studio and retail music store served many choral directors, musicians, and teachers as well as 900+ private music students throughout the years.

Joe was married to Janet (Potts) Huff for 31 years and is survived by his four children: Hayley Huff of Germany, Joanna Huff, Hillary Huff, and Jeffrey Huff all of the Indianapolis area; His sister, Sherry (Compton) Davis and brother-in-law, Gary Davis of Indianapolis. His beloved Scottish terrier, Lord MacArthur Park (Mackie) loved him fiercely and stayed at his side through his last moments.

Over the years, he shared his gift of music with so many. Joe was an outstanding brass player, unrivaled piano player, and he would say, a "decent" organist. Joe was an exceptional musician, a beloved director and teacher. He shared his musical talents with us in church (St. Andrew UMC, St. John UCC), community theatre (Footlite Musicals, Buck Creek Theatre, Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre and Spotlight Dinner Theatre), and in the classroom (Roncalli High School, Lawrence Central High School, Our Lady of the Greenwood School, Brownsburg High School). He was employed for many years as an adjudicator for ISSMA, a school music organization.

Joe is also remembered by his uplifting and corny sense of humor, incomparable trivia skills, and unconditional love for the Chicago Cubs. He shared his passion for music with all who came in contact with him.

Please join us this Saturday as we celebrate the life of our beloved father, friends, and teacher.  We will be gathering in the Manual High School Choir Room (previously the band room).

Saturday, May 18th at 1pm at Emmerich Manual High School.  Memorial service at 1 o'clock followed by a reception to share, laugh, and honor our favorite music man.
