John P. "Hawk" Fitzgerald, age 76, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Richard L Roudebush VA Medical Center. John was born December 20, 1939 in Indianapolis to William A. and Marie C. (Gallagher) Fitzgerald. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and he was a Machinist at Link Belt for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post # 64 and was an avid golfer and bowler. John was a huge Notre Dame Sports fan.

John married the former Sharon P. Bowman on June 16, 1978 and she preceded him in death on May 17, 2015. John is survived by his son, John P. (Susie) Fitzgerald, Jr. of Frankfort; daughters, Theresa (Robert) Meyers of Phoenix, AZ, Sharon Tscion of Sheridan, Karen (Allen) Brannon of Thorntown and step-daughter, Tammy (Toney) Gore of Indianapolis; brother, Michael Fitzgerald of Indianapolis; sisters, Patricia Stewart, Connie Pruitt, Mary "Joan" Weimer, Shirley (Paul) Springman, Madonna (Chuck) Jones and Cathy Fitzgerald, all of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son, David; brothers, Bill, Robert and Patrick; sister, Judy Fitzgerald.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 1 at 12:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. The family strongly requests memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, to Richard L Roudebush VA Medical Center Cardiac Care Unit.
