John M. Carson, Jr., 86, died in Indianapolis on July 7, 2017. The son of John M. and Dora E. Miller Carson, John was born March 19, 1931, in Indianapolis.
John served with the Marines as a Navy Corpsman. He received his Bachelor''s Degree from Butler University and his Master''s Degree from Indiana University. He then taught high school sciences in both Perry and Lawrence Townships. In 1977, John was appointed planetarium director at Lawrence North High School. He proudly served the students of Lawrence Township in this role until his retirement in 1990.
John was a member of the former Olive Branch Christian Church. He enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts, Indiana University basketball, reading historical fiction and going fishing.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Jean Ann Carson; his son, Mark Carson (Connie) and daughter, Susan Carson Larsen (Wayne). His surviving siblings include Jane Ferguson and Frank Carson. He also leaves loving memories with 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by brother, Robert Carson and sister, Mollie Duning.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with services at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday July 11 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood IN. John will be laid to rest at the adjoining Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
