John Kenneth
LaVine
Jul 8, 1946 — Jun 21, 2026
John Kenneth LaVine passed away peacefully at home on June 21, 2026, at 8:59 a.m., surrounded by his beloved wife, Linda, and his adoring family.
In his final gift to those who loved him, John remained with us long enough to hear the words "Happy Father's Day." That simple moment became a treasured blessing, and his family will forever be grateful for those final hours spent together.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, John developed a lifelong love of music and the arts. A graduate of Arlington High School, he was an active member of the marching band, where he proudly served as both drum major and saxophone player. His appreciation for the arts extended beyond music. He was a lover of poetry throughout his life.
Following high school, John attended Indiana State University for two years before beginning a career with Indiana Bell, which later became AT&T. It was during those years that he met the love of his life, Linda, affectionately known to him as "Bright Eyes." Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
In February 2026, John and Linda celebrated 42 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring devotion and the beautiful life they built together.
A Life Well Lived
Throughout his life, John touched the lives of family and friends with his kindness, patience, devotion, and gentle strength. Humble by nature, he never sought recognition or praise, yet his steady presence brought comfort to those around him. He found joy in life's simple pleasures and valued the relationships he shared with those he loved.
Whether attending a grandchild's performance, celebrating family weddings, or attending every high school graduation (and many college graduations), or simply checking in with his children to see how they were doing, he understood that life's greatest blessings were found in moments shared with family.
John had a genuine curiosity about the people he loved. He always wanted to know what was happening in the lives of his children and grandchildren, whether they were celebrating something wonderful or facing difficult moments. He asked questions because he truly cared. More than making conversation, John had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and important. His interest in others was one of the many ways he expressed his love.
