John Lyell Randolph Selch "Scotty " age 91

Scotty was born in New York City, NY February 21, 1929 to Jean Harper Selch and Grant M . Selch . He was the oldest of 5 children. He is preceded in death by his brothers Eric and Grant Selch and sister Adrieanne Coe. He has many nephews and nieces. He was a thoughtful and creative child. He loved to perform with his fathers puppets and put on theater performances for his father's church. He started playing the drums with a local drum corps in New York at 16yrs old.

Scotty graduated from Hobart College in NY With a degre e in Liberal Arts. He enlisted in US Army for the Korean War and was based in Bavaria Germany 1951- 1953; he was a Gunner then re-enlisted in the Airforce and was a Radio Airmen 1953- 1955.

He traveled around the Midwest working at Boys and Girl clubs, he worked on the Shoshone Bannock reservation at Fort Hall Idaho as a youth group leader / outreach coordinator through his church. Scotty was working in Omaha where he met his 1 st wife Loise Hudtloff . He had been working at a Psychiatric Hosp ital in Recreation . They married Oct. 1961 and had Shawn who was born October 1962. They then moved to Columbus IN where he ran a Boys and Girl club then moved to Indianapolis where he ran the programming for Cathedral House. They then divorced in 1965.

Scotty got his Library Science certification and then started working for the Indi ana State Library in 1966 in the historical division . He helped many an author with historical information for their books as well as some movies. He greatly enjoyed working with the newspapers, microfilms and archives. He worked for the State for 47 years.

May 1969 he married Mary Frances Gavin . He was an active member in All Saints Episcopal church with Fran. They had 2 twin daughter s in June 1975 and then divorced 1976.

June 1978 he married Nancy Ann Ennis. They were married for 42 years. Nancy accompanied Scotty to all of his events and kept fed the masses of apprentices who helped with his puppet shows with her Dutch oven baking and cooking. He and Nancy were active members in Christ Church Cathedral as acolytes .

Scotty was involved in the Civil War Roundtable, Indiana Historical Society, Scottish Society of Indianapolis , and Puppeteers Guild of America. He was a Civil war, French and Indian, and Renaissance re-enactor as a Master Puppeteer. He was also a founding member of the 42 nd Royal Highlanders in Lafayette In. A 18 th century personified bagpipe band that he played the Tenor and Bass drums in. Scotty also played in t he Clandegale and Dalriada bag p ipe bands.

He lived a long and interesting life, even when A lzheimers took over his mind. He kept his sense of humor, his love of a bad pun, his love of family history and genealogy were always a topic of discussion.

He is survived by his 1 st wife Loise , son Shawn Selch (Michelle) grandchildren Ian and Katelynn Selch . Perceded in Death by Fran Selch and Step daughter Meg Bastnagel , survived by Daughter Irena Warriner ( Jeremy) grandchildren Connor, Caelan , Cameron, Cade and Colleen Priddy . Daughter Gavin Selch , grandchildren Kassandra Rhea, Ehren Burrows. Step Daughter Virgina Rabbit-Jenkins and grandson Colin Jenkins.

Survived by his wife of 42yrs Nancy Ann Selch and Step-daughters Elaine L ockwood , Emily Pratt (John) and grandchildren James and Joseph Inwood and his youngest sister Cecily Yount .
