John McHugh, Indianapolis, passed away on the morning of March 27, 2023. He was 65 years old. John was born in Indianapolis , IN to his parents John and Betty McHugh. John was raised in Fillmore, IN by his parents with his 4 siblings. He graduated from South Putnam High School, class of 1976. John earned his bachelor degree in business from St Francis and Indiana Wesleyan University. While attending St Francis University, John was a member of the Sigma Lambda fraternity and pitched for the St Francis baseball team. John married his wife, Phyllis, in 1985 and they shared 38 years of marriage together.
John worked as an account executive for several companies, most recently including Canon IV and Arrow Electronics and retired after many years of service. John attended Holy Name Church with his wife, Phyllis. John was an outspoken and intelligent family man. His family describes him as an athletic, funny, and helpful person that would bend over backwards for his friends and family. He was always very supportive of his children's extracurricular activities. John made a point to coach as many teams for his kids as he could. John thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at Ronald McDonald House Charity for 13 years. John was an avid reader and specifically enjoyed novels detailing historical events including the American Civil War. John was a talented artist in every sense of the word. He leaves behind memories of his guitar playing and beautiful oil paintings for his family to enjoy. John loved sports, specifically baseball and football; he was a Notre Dame fan throughout his life. The memories created will now be cherished by those John leaves behind.
John is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis McHugh; his children, Dan (Dena) McHugh and Erika (Andrew) Tirotta; his grandchildren, Dana, Thomas, Annmarie, Kaitlyn, and Andrew; his siblings, Susie (Bill) Engle, Charles McHugh, Mike (Ronda) McHugh; his several nieces and nephews; his several great nieces and nephews; his in-laws, Janie (Kenny) Truesdell, Diana (Greg)Hunter, Kenny (Cherie) Rieman, Kristy (Tim) Halcomb.
John is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Krista Barber; his sister, Becky Terrier.
A visitation for John will be held on April 1, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The funeral service will be on  April 1, 2023 at 6:00 pm. A private interment will be at a later date.
