Dr. John Michael Parsey, age 89 of Greenwood, died at 11:03pm Saturday, March 7th at Community Hospital South. John was born February 12, 1920 in Ethelbert, Manitoba Province, Canada. On July 27, 1946, he married Elsie G. Kushnier in Stenen, Saskatchewan. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a bombardier/navigator and as a radar engineer in World War II. Dr. Parsey was a Professor of Education at Michigan State University from 1958 to 1971; was Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at Indiana State University from 1971 to 1978; and was Director of Research and Development at State of University New York from 1978 to 1983. He was also a member of Our Lady of the Greenwood, Phi Beta Kappa, an avid stamp collector, and loved woodworking, photography, gardening, the outdoors, fishing, camping and traveling. Dr. Parsey is survived by his wife Elsie; 4 sons, John Michael (Marie) Parsey, Jr, James Robert (Renaye) Parsey, Joseph William Parsey and Jerrold Thomas (Tracy) Parsey; one daughter, Elisabeth Ann (John) Britt. Dr. Parsey also is also surived by one brother Edward S. (Mary Lee) Parsey and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters. Services will be Friday, March 13th at 11:00 am at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135 in Greenwood. Friends may call from 5-7 pm Thursday and an hour prior to service at the funeral home. Burial will follow immediately after the service in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
