Obituary

Joseph "Joe" Douglas Robertson passed away at his home in Greenwood, IN on Saturday, December 7, 2019.

Born in Indianapolis, IN on June 2, 1948, Joe was the son of the late Lois Robertson and Edward Samuel "Sam" Robertson. Joe was raised on the west side of Indianapolis where he attended George Washington High School. He was drafted by the Army when he was 19 years old and was deployed to Vietnam. In the 1970's he was stationed in Goepping, Germany for 3 years with his young family, and returned back to Indiana working at Stout Field, Tyndall Armory, and Camp Atterbury. Joe was deployed again during Operation Desert Storm. In 1992, Joe retired from the US Army and the Indiana National Guard as a First Sergeant after 25 years of service. During his military career he served with distinction and was a decorated patriot receiving many honors including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

Joe was a loving father and active member of the community coaching baseball, teaching Sunday school, and serving as a leader for Cub Scout Pack 617. He was an avid race fan and loved going to the Indy 500.

He is survived by his son Andrew Joseph Robertson and his wife Noosheen Sassan Robertson of Watertown, MA; his son Travis Michael Robertson of Greenwood, IN; his former wife and lifelong friend Rita Marie Robertson; his sisters Rita Lynch and Virginia "Ginny" Meeks, his grandchildren Gabrielle Morrgan Jackson and Jack Parker Robertson, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his daughter Mary Ann Robertson and brother Samuel Robertson.

Family visitation will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 21st, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S.State Rd. 135, Greenwood, IN.  All are welcome.

The family requests donations be made to a veteran's charity in lieu of flowers.
