Joseph E. Porter, 90, passed away December 17, 2012 at Community Hospital South. He was a resident of Indianapolis. He was born January 19, 1922 to the late Layton H. and Mabel (Laws) Porter. He married Helen Dewitt on May 30, 1946 in Indianapolis, and she survives. Joseph retired from General Motors in 1980 after 39 years of service and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a charter member of the White River Volunteer Fire Dept., a former VFW member, and a member of Smith Valley United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Pricilla Porter and Wanda Jean Vanderpool; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 21, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, with burial to follow in Forest lawn memory Gardens. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer''s Association.
