Obituary

Joseph William Schaffer, 75, of Greenwood, Indiana, was born at home in the evening hours of September 28, 1950, and passed over at his home in the early morning hours of January 3, 2026. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Carl William Schaffer Sr. and Viola Frances (Herring) Schaffer. He was the youngest of seven children. Four have preceded him in death; Carl William Schaffer Jr; Francis Eugene Schaffer, Lavonne Marie (Schaffer) Skinner and Kenneth Robert Schaffer. Survivors include his sisters, Nancy Sue (Schaffer) Girdley and Sally Irene (Schaffer) Abernathy. By his side for 55 years was his devoted wife, Vicki Lynne (Sedam) Schaffer, whom he married on August 8, 1970, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Other survivors include his loving son, Stephen Kenneth (Rachael) Schaffer, who will miss him more than words can say; his grandsons, Keith Robert Harpenau, Kyle Joseph (Jack) Schaffer, Stephen Hunter Schaffer; his great grandson Logan James Dukes. After graduating high school, he enrolled at IUPUI, but soon found there were more important things to accomplish. Dedicated to his family, Joseph worked hard from the very beginning. His first main job, he started out as a night watchman and worked his way through the shop and then into management where he became product manager for analog recording products. From there, he moved on to another company where he worked for more than 25 years. He worked hard, traveling the world, always striving to be the best at what he did. He accomplished that by becoming CEO of the company. After he departed there, he began his retirement phase. He enjoyed many things, but his family was at the top of the list. After that, it was learning, whether reading a book or surfing the internet, learning was his happy place. His mantra was "Learn something new every day" and he passed this along to his son, grandsons, and great grandson who have heard this statement many, many, times. He will be missed.
