Joseph Stogdill, of Bloomington Indiana, passed away on Saturday July 9, 2022. He was 81. Joseph was born on January 19, 1941 in Nashville Indiana, to Otto Stogdill and Beulah (Wootten) Stogdill. Upon being welcomed into the world, Joseph became one of 15 siblings and enjoyed having a large family in his youth.
Joseph worked at General Motors as a line worker after graduating from high school.
Joseph was a member of Bloomington Vineyard Church for the last five years. Joseph truly loved working hard every day of his life. He also had a passion for driving all different types of vehicles including taxi cabs, dump trucks, bulldozers and backhoes. According to his family, Joseph liked to think that he was good at repairing those vehicles as well. For leisure, Joseph loved the simple pleasure of apple picking and smoking his pipe with captain black cherry tobacco in it. One of his favorite events were the Stogdill reunions. He always attended and was so very proud when his kids joined him for the events. He was a huge family man and amazing grandpa that loved acting like a grizzly bear and either scaring the grandkids to death or bringing them in for huge bear hugs. Joseph always wanted to pick up the tab when everyone went out to eat. His family was his life. He loved them all dearly and was happiest when people were with him. Even though Joseph had Alzheimer's, he was a joy to be around and never lost his sense of humor till the end. He was truly beloved by his family and will be dearly missed.
Joseph is survived by his children Jeffrey (Tonya) Stogdill, and Kim Stogdill; Daughter-in-law, Ellen Stogdill; Grandchildren, Micheal, Brandy, Beth, Ricky, Ashley, Ryan,Travis, Caleb, Tori, and Christopher; 27 Great Grandchildren; Sister, Louella Stogdill; and several nieces and nephews.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents; Wife, Norma June (Stewart) Stogdill; Son,Christopher Stogdill; Grandson, Dalton; Siblings, Kenneth (Ruth), Warren (Laura), William "Willy" (Esther), Thelma (Eugene), James "Bud" (Kay), Betty (Everett), Mary (Howard), David (Shirley), Norma (Charles), Samuel, Sarah (John), Walter,and Robert.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday July 15, 2022 at 12:00pm at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood. He will be laid to rest following the services at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00am until the time of service at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in the Ben Franklin Mausoleum
