Judith "Judy" Ann Porter, Avon Park, FL, passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024. She was 79 years old. Judy was born in Beech Grove, IN to her parents William and Lucille Shafer. She graduated from High School and attended University, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree. Judy married her husband, Mark Porter, in 1969 and they shared 55 years of marriage together.
Judy worked as a registered nurse for 38 years and retired in 2007. Judy was a member of Bethany Baptist Church with her husband for many years. Judy was also a member of the Moose Lodge, the American Legion and the Nursing Honors Sorority through Indiana University. Music always held a special place in Judy's life; she loved to dance- especially country line dancing. Judy also loved to listen to music and sing in her spare time. Another passion of Judy's was cooking; she loved to welcome her family and friends into her life and provide them with food to nourish their souls. Judy enjoyed caring for her rose bushes alongside her husband. Judy was the matriarch of her family and held family gatherings as often as she could. Her loving nature and outgoing personality will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind.
Judy is survived by her husband, Mark Porter; her children, Patrick (Julie) Porter and Jeremy (Rhiannon) Porter; her grandchildren, Taren Porter, Jordan Porter, Devan Porter, Alexis Llyod, and Gavin Porter; her great grandchildren, Mia Lloyd and Dawson Lloyd.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents.
The Graveside service will be on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 1:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
