Obituary

Katherine A. “Kay” Herald, 81, of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026. Kay was born to the late Milton and Mary Holt. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Tim Holt.

Kay will be deeply missed by her loving children, Matthew Herald and Shelley (Wade) Lytle; her loving grandchildren, Chance (Mackenna) Lytle and Collin Lytle and her loving great-grandchildren, Emarah Lytle and Abraham Lytle.

Kay was a feisty redhead from Humboldt, TN who never met a stranger. Her family moved to Indiana when she was a child. She graduated from Warren Central High School. Kay served as an EMT for Cordry/Sweetwater Lakes in Nineveh, IN. She was trained as a Medical Assistant from Professional Career Institute and was employed by Atterbury Job Corps for 12 years and finished her career at American Health Network.

Kay valued her time most with family, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Decorating for the latter was a favorite pastime. She made a mean lasagna everyone looked forward to on Christmas.

She adored dogs and after losing her longtime 4-legged companion, Holly, she looked forward to extended sleepovers from Gracie, her son’s Blue Nose Pitty. Kay loved dancing, listening to classic country music, watching old Western movies, as well as enjoying shows like Star Trek and Hudson and Rex. She also enjoyed reading and traveling, Arizona and Florida, her favorite destinations.

Kay cherished her personal faith in Jesus Christ and loved attending church and visiting loved ones before and after services.

A private memorial and graveside service will be held at 10:30am Friday, March 20, 2026, at Forest Lawn Gardens Cemetery.
