Kenneth Paul Meiring, Sr., age 93, of Indianapolis died, Wednesday, February 22, 2012. He was born June 24, 1918 to Anthony and Katherine Meiring in Bicknell, IN. He attended Cathedral High School. Mr. Meiring was a 10 year Navy Veteran serving on the USS (Old) Saratoga Aircraft Carrier from 1935 thru 1939. He was moved to NAS Cape May in New Jersey until 1943 and then to the USS Bataan Aircraft Carrier until the war ended in 1945.
Mr. Meiring was a parishioner at St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church in Fishers. Kenny''s greatest love was attending Mass, but he also loved his longtime home on Sweetwater Lake and most especially the fishing there. Lawrence Welk, Wheel of Fortune and reading were also great pleasures for Kenny.
He married the former Wava Sloan on September 21, 1937 who preceded him in death on April 5, 2011. Kenny and Wava are survived by their sons, Reginald Paul Meiring, Hickory, NC, Kenneth Paul Meiring, Jr, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Curtis John Meiring, Pendleton, IN and daughter Kristine Joanne Morawietz, Deland, FL. They are also survived by nine grandchildren and umpteen great grand children, nieces and nephews.
After a divorce from Wava, Kenny married the former Glenna Wright on August 3, 1963. Glenna preceded Kenny in death on November 24, 2003. They too are survived by umpteen grand children and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 27, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, IN with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday, February 26, 2012 from 3 to 7pm at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Louis de Montfort Catholic Church and St. Agnes Catholic Church, Nashville, IN.
