Kenneth Donald Platt (Ken) was born on October 28, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio. His wife, Marjorie (Marge) Platt preceded him in death on August 31, 2020.  They were married on January 24, 1948 and they faithfully stood side by side for 72 years. Ken's father William was of German descent and he supported his family of six by working on the railroad. His mother Mamie was from Nova Scotia. Ken had an older brother, Charles, and a younger sister, Eleanor, and the youngest brother, Harold.  All of Ken's siblings have preceded him in death.
As with most young men of his generation, Ken enlisted in the armed forces, serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific during WWII. Upon discharge after the war, he was awarded a scholarship to the University of Chicago but declined that opportunity in favor of steady employment, eventually with AT&T where he became a supervisor.
His employment took Ken and his family from Cleveland to Wheaton, Illinois, to Edwardsburg, Michigan, and ultimately to Indianapolis. Ken served faithfully and diligently for AT&T and retired after many years.  He immediately began driving a school bus for Perry Township as his wife, Marge, had been doing for several years.  Ken retired as well from that position after 10 years.
Ken and Marge adopted their daughter, Cheryl, as an infant and three years later adopted their son, Rusty, who preceded both Ken and Marge in death. As a family, Ken and Marge made involvement in church a priority and that priority continued for the entirety of their married lives. Ken taught a high school boys' Sunday school class and he also played the organ and piano in church for decades.
Ken died peacefully in his sleep on January 25, 2022 at the age of 96 and passed into the presence of his Lord Jesus. He is survived by his daughter Cheryl (Bill), four grandchildren and their spouses, and six great-grandchildren. He is remembered by friends and family as an easy going, jovial, and genuinely happy soul. Ken made a commitment to the Lord Jesus at a young age and he radiated the joy of that relationship his entire life. He faced the loss of his beloved wife Marge, the inevitable loneliness that followed after 72 years of marriage, and the advancing infirmity of the aging process – with courage and dignity.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Laban Ministries International, 1401 Windermere Drive, Columbia, TN 39401. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 2, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The funeral service will begin at 5:00 PM. Both will be held at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143.
