Lawrence Edward Clingman, 94, of New Whiteland, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, March 1st, 2017.

Born on June 4th, 1922, in Springfield, Ohio, to Adam and Gladys (Daily) Clingman, Larry was married to Margaret Jean Calbert (of Plainfield) for 57 years, from May 18th, 1945, until her death in 2002.

He is survived by his children, Judy Clingman DeWitt (of Franklin), John Clingman (New Whiteland) and Jay Clingman (Columbia, SC); Grandchildren, Jennifer Smiley (Scott), Scott DeWitt (Jonna), Ted DeWitt (Karen), Hannah Clingman and Rebecca Clingman; Great Grandchildren, Daniel, Jonathan and Arin Smiley, Madison and Mason DeWitt, and Jason and Alex DeWitt, and his brother, Richard Clingman of Springfield, Ohio, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, and his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his first granddaughter (Wendy DeWitt), and brother (Robert Clingman).

Larry retired in 1982 after 30 years as an audit supervisor for Standard Oil Company of Indiana. He was a proud World War II U.S. Navy veteran (1941-45), serving as a Signalman aboard the 94th Naval Construction Battalion and the USS Sheridan APA-51. He was active in the USS Sheridan reunion group.

A 1962 graduate of Indiana Central College, Larry cherished his associations with several groups, including Plainfield Masonic Lodge 653 (50 year member), Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Veterans of Foreign Wars (Life Member), American Legion Post 205 - Franklin, and was an Amateur Radio Operator (KB9HVW).

Larry and Jean were founding members of the New Whiteland Christian Church, where he faithfully served as a deacon and elder.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic memorial service conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Burial will follow services at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood.
