Lawton Edward
'Ed' Jeffers
Aug 19, 1945 — Oct 29, 2021
Indianapolis
Mr. Lawton Edward 'Ed' Jeffers, Jr., Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at his residence on the afternoon of Friday, October 29, 2021. He was 76. Lawton was born August 19, 1945 in Oneida, Tennessee, a son of the late Lawton Edward and Evelyn Gaines (Hines) Jeffers.
Ed attended Oneida High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1963. Like so many others from that area of Tennessee, Ed came to Indiana and found employment with General Motors at the Truck and Bus plant. He worked there as a forklift operator and retired August 1, 2000 after 32.7 years of service.
Ed was the definition of a race car enthusiast, especially Hot Rods. As a teenager, he designed and sketched the dashboard of a car and it was printed in a Hot Rod magazine. As an adult, he worked as a crew member for Bruce Litton of the NHRA-IHRA. He would often spend his leisure time watching airplanes take-off and land at the airport and as well as watching trains. It could truly be said that he loved anything to do with planes, trains and automobiles.
Ed dearly loved his family and spending time with them. He also enjoyed playing cards and traveling, often going back home to Tennessee to visit family and friends.
He was a member of the Shelbyville Road Church of Christ in Indianapolis.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Cloretta (Terry) Jeffers; his children, Chuck (Chris) Jeffers and Tammy (Jay) Huston; his grandchildren, Crystal Jeffers and Chad Jeffers; his siblings, Ronnie (Trudy) Jeffers, Jo (Jack) Latimer, Jane (Allen) Sexton and Suzanne (Ronnie) Kidd as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm, Thursday, November 4, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with Brother Ben Vick officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
