Indianapolis – Leo J. Rhoda, age 90, died peacefully at home with family members on January 12, 2021. Born and raised in Missouri, Leo moved to Indianapolis at 18, served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954, and eventually met Marjorie LaFata, the love of his life. They married in 1957 and family, photography and volunteering received most of his energy since then.

Their parents and siblings, their four children, twenty-one nieces and nephews and nine grandchildren provided Leo with much joy, the occasional drama, and limitless opportunities to listen and perhaps to inspire, to challenge and support, and often to record through the lenses of his many cameras. Leo was always the guy with a camera hanging from his neck, capturing moments along with the people who made them.

Leo carried his cameras beyond those family gatherings, volunteering to take pictures of a generation of kids on football and basketball and kickball teams, on cheerleading squads and in theater productions. He relished his annual spot inside the 4 th turn at the Indianapolis 500 Speedway, tripod mounted camera at the ready, eventually becoming a member of the Old Timers Club. Leo also volunteered at the Indiana State Fair as an organizer and judge for the photography competitions and displays.

Beyond picture taking, Leo volunteered within the Catholic Church.  He served on the Boards of Education for both Nativity Catholic Church Parish and the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. He was also a member of Circle City REACT for more than forty years, helping to provide traffic, logistics and safety support for sponsored walks, runs, triathlons, airshows and other Greater Indianapolis area events.

Leo is survived by Marjorie, their children Paul, Michael, Evelyn and Mark, and their grandchildren Akamai, Evan, Kyle, Ariel, Melissa, Midas, Courtney, Dylan and Jessica. He was preceded in death by his sisters Clemadean and Florence.

Burial will occur at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greenwood, IN on January 20, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations to charities of the donor's choice are encouraged.
