Obituary

Mr. Leonard Witt, Jr., of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on the early afternoon of Wednesday, October 29, 2025. He was 88 years old.
Leonard was born on March 23, 1937, in London, Kentucky, a son of the late Leonard and Nancy Elizabeth (Floyd) Witt, Sr. He attended London City Schools and later honorably served his country in the United States Air Force, where he trained as an airplane mechanic and earned his GED.
Following his military service, Leonard began a long and dedicated career with Carrier Corporation, where he worked as a brazier. He retired in 2008 after an impressive 47 years of service.
A proud and active member of the Moose Lodge No. 500 in Speedway, Leonard held every office within the organization during his many years of membership. He was also deeply honored to receive the Pilgrim Degree of Honor, the highest recognition bestowed by the Moose fraternity, reflecting his leadership and devotion to service.
In his leisure time, Leonard enjoyed tinkering with old cars, watching classic Westerns, and playing poker with friends. Above all, he treasured time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him great joy and laughter.
Leonard is survived by his daughters, Nancy House and Tammy (Jerry) Ellingwood; his grandchildren, Jeanette Knox and Tonya Strong; his beloved great-grandchildren, Aidyn and Rowan as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in passing by his loving wife, Carolyn Sue (Messer) Witt; and his siblings, Raymond, John, Mary, Geneva, and Wilma.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Friday, November 7, 2025, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens following the service.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.
