Leroy G. Callahan, 94, of Indianapolis passed away February 23, 2018 at Greenwood Village South. He was born February 12, 1924 in Pittsboro, IN to Leroy and Ada Callahan.
Leroy attended Manual High School where he played football. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp, where he was stationed in Camp Pendleton, and was a WWII and Korean veteran. Leroy then joined the Indianapolis Police Department where he retired as Sergeant of Robbery and Homicide and was a member of the IPD Motorcycle Drill Team. After serving 25 years with the IPD he opened his own security company which led him to his position of head of security of AFAB which later was Chase Bank. He was a proud member of Shriners, Scottish Rite and the American Legion, which he recently received his 70 year membership certificate. He enjoyed motorcycles, bowling and traveling and was able to visit 48 of the 50 states.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth Callahan and parents, Leroy and Ada Callahan.
He is survived by his son, Pat Callahan; daughters, Sharon Copenhaver, Janie Klonk, Brenda Lozier and Kelly Ritter; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 11:00 am, with visitation one hour prior, also in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
