Linda Nan
Kilgore
May 11, 1938 — May 4, 2026
Linda Kring Kilgore, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday, May 4, 2026, a few days before her 88th birthday. She was born in Clinton, Indiana, to the late Esther Miller Given and James Given. She went to grade school in Gary, Indiana, before earning a four-year Registered Nurse degree from Indiana University, Bloomington and Indianapolis.
She married Robert Allen Kring, who preceded her in death in 1975, and briefly Richard D. Moore, before finding life-long happiness with Bon Kilgore, spending 31 years with him before he passed away in 2021. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Given Sakowicz.
Linda had a lifelong love of music and the outdoors. She played the piano for most of her life, finding joy and expression through it. She cherished her years with Bon at their country cottage—affectionately known as “the Garbin”—where they spent many peaceful days fishing and enjoying the beauty of nature together.
Surviving are her sons, step-children, and daughters-in-law, David Kring, William Kring (Sandy), Robert Kring (Jen), Bonnie Madley, Robert Mark Kilgore (Donna), and Michael Kilgore; grandchildren Andrew Kring (Sarah), Megan Kring, Rachel Kring, Dakota (Roberts) Faulkner (John), and Lawson Roberts Kring; nieces and nephews Ann Kring, Brian Kring, and Brian Sakowicz; grandniece Emma Sakowicz, grandnephew Brandon Kring, and great grandniece Elara Kring.
Linda devoted her early years to raising her sons at home before co-founding a woodworking and crafts business in Indianapolis and Nashville, Indiana, with her close friend Diane Clute. She went on to have a long and dedicated career as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. She served on Seven Tower before becoming the hospital’s head nurse for the evening shift and was honored as Nurse of the Year.
Linda was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Indianapolis, most of her adult life, where she accompanied organist Tom Williams on the piano or played the organ herself.
A memorial service and music for Linda will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Friedens UCC, 8300 S. Meridian St., Indianapolis, IN 46217.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until the time of service at the church. The immediate family then will have a gravesite committal service at 2:15 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friedens UCC for its Tom Williams Scholarship. Please make checks out to Friedens UCC with Tom Williams Scholarship written on the memo line.
