Obituary

Linda Carol Sowell, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026. She was 75 years old. Linda was born in Indianapolis to her parents, Lenvill and Eva Lorraine Horton. She graduated from Manuel High School and attended Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis where she graduated with a master’s degree in education. Linda and her husband, Tommy Sowell, shared a loving marriage of 50 years until his passing is 2025.

Linda served her community teaching at Indianapolis Public Schools for 30 years, eventually retiring in 2009; she couldn't wait to be involved in taking care of her beloved granddaughter. Linda enjoyed staying busy- she was a lover of arts and crafts, fishing at Indian Lakes, glamping, and golf carting with her beloved dog, Maggie. She especially loved making fairy dolls and bracelets. Linda was known for her big heart, willingness to help others, her sarcastic sense of humor, and unconditional love. She was a very attentive mother, loving wife and grandmother, and always showed up for her family. Her quick wit and warmth will be dearly missed and forever cherished by those she leaves behind.

Linda is survived by her children: Rebecca (Brent Becker) Sowell and Elisabeth Bandea; her granddaughter, Miranda Sowell-Baker; her best friend (and Godmother to Rebecca), Barabara Sweeney; her brother, Michael (Sandy) Horton.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Tommy.

Per Linda's wishes there will be no services at this time. Burial arrangements will be announced at a later date.
