Linda Lucille Matlock Waites, 79, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on August 11, 2026. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, Linda was born on May 19, 1947, the eldest child of Samuel H. and Alma L. Matlock. She was a proud 1965 graduate of Ben Davis High School. On July 9, 1966, she wed her high school sweetheart, James M. Waites, beginning a beautiful 60-year journey together.

Linda and Jim both attended Indiana State University, where she obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She had a long career in school logistics, working for Decatur Township Schools, Rise Transportation, and Perry Township Schools, ultimately retiring as the Director of Transportation for Pike Township Schools.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John H. Matlock. Her memory will be forever treasured by her husband, Jim; her children, Jimmy (Tamara) Waites, Tom (Lisa) Waites, Cindy (Travis) Pfost, and Sam (Matt) Waites; her grandchildren, Tommy, Cooper, Parker, Callie (Austin), Carter, Abigail, Jake, Emma, Wyatt, Seth, and Zakk; and her great-grandchildren, Scarlett, Harlan, Milo, Oakley, and Waylon.

A visitation for Linda will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. The funeral service will be on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Linda will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens immediately following the funeral service at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you call your mom. Tell her you love her. What we wouldn’t give to have one more day with ours.
