Lloyd Junior Stewart was born May 21, 1926 in Smithville, IN to William Clive and (Flotilla) Florence Louise (Childers) Stewart. Lloyd completed eighth grade in Smithville and then began working. He entered the US Navy in 1944, at the age of 18, and served in WW2 aboard the USS Lake Champlain and moved up in rank to Yeoman 2nd Class. After his two years in the service, he returned to his hometown and met his wife of 59 years, Patsy Christine (Cook) Stewart, who has predeceased him. Before the newlyweds moved to the southside of Indianapolis, Lloyd worked as a sawyer, like his father, as well as a delivery driver for Coca-Cola.
After arriving in Indianapolis, Lloyd began working for Allison Transmission as a Tool Trouble Mechanic/Skilled Tool Tryout. Weekends and summers found him enjoying the country life of his youth. At his summer homes, he raised animals and planted apple orchards with his children and grandchildren. He taught his children how to hunt and fish. Lloyd enjoyed flying airplanes and riding motorcycles. His passion was exploring the great wonders of our country. He was a lifelong member of the NRA, as well as a coin and rock collector. He loved watching the TV network Grit. Lloyd was a passionate philanthropist, making
donations to many children's charities, as well as to veterans programs and police appeals. He retired from Allison's after 35 years of service and he and his wife moved to a small town near Spencer, called Patricksburg. They later returned to Franklin where Lloyd lived the remainder of his life. He passed away on May 12, 2021, just before his 95th birthday.
Lloyd is survived by two of his four children, his son Terry (Sandra) Stewart and his daughter Rhonda Patterson. He was preceded in death by his son Rick (Reenie) and his daughter Melody (Dwight) Patton. He has 9 grandchildren, Teri Schulz, Patrick Stewart, Kristi Malicoat, Susan Andersch, Zachary Stewart, Andrew Stewart, Kelly Korte, Craig Patton, and Holly Patton. He also has many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A showing will be held on June 17th from 5pm to 7pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood. The funeral service to celebrate his life will take place on June 18th at Forest Lawn, beginning at 1pm.
