Loran William "Robbie" Robbins, 89, of Greenwood, Indiana, died on May 26, 2013.

He was born to the late Louis and Mary Robbins, on September 6, 1923 in Bedford, Indiana. Robbie graduated from Bedford High School in 1941 and began working as a draftsman for Jeff Boat in Jeffersonville, IN until the formal entry of the United States in World War II, where he enlisted into the United States Navy, as a "Sea Bee", honorably serving his country until the end of World War II.

Upon completion of his military service, he became a driver for Mayflower Moving Company, where he met his loving wife, Mildred Louise "Mickey" Robbins, who has preceded him in death. His love for the blossoming labor movement moved him to become a union steward and then business agent for Local 135 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. After a successful period as a business agent and secretary-treasurer, Robbie was elected as the president of Local 135 and proudly served in that capacity for 18 years unselfishly serving his membership. While president of Local 135, he was elected as president of the Indiana Conference of Teamsters, was appointed to the position of International Vice President for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and was again appointed to serve as Trustee to the Central States, Health and Welfare and Pension Funds, where he presided as the Union Chairman until his retirement in 1989.

Robbie''s many hobbies included Native American history, hunting, fishing and gardening. He successfully passed down his love of all to his children who are eternally grateful for these gifts.

Robbie is survived by two siblings: June Herrell of Bedford, IN and Douglas Robbins of Nashville, Tennessee; three children, Carl Robbins, Lewisville, IN, Scott Robbins, Carpentersville, IL, and Karan Bunch, Bargersville, IN. He has nine grandchildren, Karla Jo Robbins, Kathy Ann Robbins, Chris Bunch, Carrie Ayres, April Sue Robbins, Katlyn Robbins, Krista Robbins, Robbie Robbins and Sarah Robbins; three step-grandchildren, Stephanie Sanders, Elizabeth Sanders and Gabrielle Sanders; six great grandchildren, Briana Ayres, Zachary Ayres, Isabell Ayres, Isaiah Bunch, Trevor Robbins and Trent Robbins.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 29, 2013, 10:00 AM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, IN. Friends may call Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, and from 9:00 AM until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.
