Lura
Magers
May 6, 1943 — Aug 17, 2021
Lura Ann Magers, age 78, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 17, 2021, due to complications from COVID-19. She was born May 6, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan to Emma Reffett. She married the love of her life, Charles Kenneth Magers, in September of 1961 who preceded her in death Monday, August 16, 2021. Once as neighbors, they met on their front porch in Louisville, KY. Kenneth knew Lura was the one and knew she was going to be his wife one day.
Lura loved to craft, bake, crochet and work fill-in crossword puzzles. Her hands were rarely still. She also shared her love with food especially around Christmas time when she would give her baked goods to family, neighbors, and friends. There wasn't a time where she didn't have food or snacks prepared just in- case she had visitors . For many years Lura worked at her mother and stepfather's restaurant in Kentucky. It suited her servant heart. She spent most of her life as a homemaker caring for, and raising her four children, Gail, Kenny, Tony and Susan and three grandchildren Niki, Sabrena and Allen. She also babysat many of the kids in the neighborhood. She was Heaven on earth and "home" for many and will be missed by all.
Lura is survived by her four children Gail (Bob) Aaron, Kenny (Ruth) Magers, Tony (Peggy) Magers, and Susan (Jay) Fisher; Grandchildren Niki Carrico, Sabrena (Travis) Ham, Allen (Christina) Magers, Whitney (Travis) Hackleman, Kayla (Joe) Byrum, Kayce Magers, Kayden Magers; 16 great-grandchildren; Sisters Fran (Glenn) Dorman, Pam (Jimmy) Coffey, and Jennie (Larry) Quinn; Brothers Wayne Metcalf and Elbert (Luann) Metcalf; her many nephews and nieces. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
Lura is preceded in death by her mother, Emma Metcalf, Stepfather Bernie Metcalf, four brothers (Ray Jr, Roy, Gilbert, and Tommy), granddaughter Katie Ann Sellers, and great-grandson Carter Lewis DeVoe.
