Margaret "Peggy" Ellen (Gehring) Scales, 82, of Indianapolis went to heaven on July 19, 2021.  She was born August 9, 1938 in Wheatley, Arkansas to the late Paul and Grace Gehring.

Peggy grew up in Wheatley on her parent's farm where she shared in all the family responsibilities to keep the farm running.  She was active in 4-H and loved to roller skate.  After graduating from her high school as valedictorian, she went on to earn degrees in teaching at Texas Women's College and Southern Methodist University in Dallas.  After college, she taught at schools in Fort Worth, Texas and Arkansas.  Peggy moved to Indiana in 1977 and married her husband, Robert Scales, on July 3, 1977 and together raised their son, Brandon.  By this time, Peggy had retired from teaching and was able to stay home and focus on being a wife and mom.  She enjoyed playing the organ, flowers and gardening, reading and working puzzles, dining out, watching movies and spending time with her cats.  Peggy was a member of the Honey Creek United Methodist Church and served for a time as their church historian.  Her greatest love was her family and caring for them.  Peggy was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Peggy will be forever remembered by her son, Brandon; stepson, David Scales; brother, James Gehring; and many other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Robert, Peggy was preceded in death by her siblings, Paul Gehring, Jr., and Mary Evelyn Gehring.

Family will receive friends from 10:00am - 11:00am Monday, July 26 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, Indiana  46143, with the funeral service to begin at 11:00.
