Margaret G. Bales, 95, of Indianapolis passed away August 15, 2017. She was born August 13, 1922 at home in Greenwood, IN to Clarence and Sadie (Coulter) Elkins.
Margaret was one of 13 children and left school in the 7th grade to stay home and help her mother raise her younger brothers and sisters. She married her love, Max on August 10, 1939 and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved keeping a meticulous house and enjoyed gardening, cooking, square dancing, needlepoint, word searches, coloring, ironing, camping and fishing.
Until the age of 93 Margaret lived independently. She was a classy dresser with the best hair, make up and nails in her facility.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Max Bales; son, Ronald Lee Bales; brothers, Virgil and Earl Elkins; sisters, Carolyn Bogue, Helen Smith, Faye Leffler, Opal Palmer, Geneva Curry, Elizabeth Tressler, Lydia Mae Elkins and Betty Mason.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Gloria Bristow; brother, Virgil (Bobbi) Elkins; sister, Judy Alexander; grandchildren, Douglas Bristow and Angela (Marlin) Parke and great grandchildren, Tyler (Lauren) Parke, Kasie Parke and Cami Bristow.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 19 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm with a funeral service at 12:00 pm in Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 S. State Rd. 135, Greenwood.
