IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margery 'Margie'
Nichols
November 10, 1926 – August 10, 2023
Mrs. Margery 'Margie' Nichols, Plainfield, passed away on the late morning of Thursday, August 10, 2023 at I.U. Hospital West in Avon, Indiana. She was 96. Margie was born November 10, 1926 in Bedford, Indiana, a daughter of the late Henry Elmer and Margaret Jane (Baker) Fox.
Margie attended Clear Spring High School in Clear Spring, Indiana and was a member of the graduating class of 1945. She had been employed with Kiger School Supply and was their head bookkeeper until retiring in 1981 after 16 years of service.
Margie's heart was being a mother to her five children and being a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling and accompanying her husband to his Army reunions in various locations around the country. She also enjoyed working puzzles, reading, and gardening-taking care of her flowers and vegetables. She also helped her brother on his farm in the Seymour and Bedford area for many years. Margie enjoyed watching television in her spare time, especially the Indianapolis Colts, The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. At the end of the day, her greatest joy was caring for her family and spending weekends in the summer at their cabin on Graybrook Lake in Poland, Indiana.
Margie is survived by her nearly 101 year old sister, Esther Fox; her children, Sherry (Nichols) Cotton, Karen (Nichols) Peed, Mary Nichols (James) Clements, Carl Nichols and Bonnie Nichols; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
Margie is preceded in passing by her parents; her husband of 66 years, Carlton Eugene Nichols; a grandson; nine siblings as well as sons-in-law Gary Peed and James Petty.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood.
She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
