Mark S. Tanier, 60, of Greenwood passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. He was born to Roy and Virginia Tanier in Bloomington, Indiana. Mark graduated from Bloomington North High School in 1982, and joined the United States Army later the same year.
Mark met Paula Ashley in a Junior Achievement course during his Senior year of high school. She made an unforgettable impression on him during their first date, and the rest was history. They were married in 1983 before his first assignment with the Army in Bad Krueznach, Germany. In 1986, after three years of newlywed bliss spent traveling around Europe they returned stateside with their six-week-old daughter to Ft. Campbell, Kentucky where they would go on to have two more children.
Mark was deployed during Operation Desert Storm with the 159th Aviation Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division. He was an aircraft mechanic, a sergeant and squad leader. Veterans who served with him recall that he was an excellent platoon sergeant, a respected soldier and a great man to have by their sides. When Mark left the service after 13 years, he always held on to the pride he took in his country, and the lessons he learned during his enlistment.
Post-Retirement, Mark worked as a manager in the restaurant industry. Every employee who ever worked for him would say that he was the best boss they ever had. His work ethic was rivaled only by his ability to make others laugh. Mark had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor that he passed on to his three children.
Mark was known for his loyalty to his family, his love for his country, his sense of humor and his very large collection of superhero memorabilia and comic books. Mark is survived by his wife of 41 years Paula Tanier; his three children Kelli Steiner, Travis (Marilyn) Tanier and Andrea (Greg) Pamachena; his three grandchildren Brandon, Julius and MaryJayne Steiner and two sisters Deb Tanier and Cori Tanier-Sweat. He is proceeded in death by both of his parents and his son-in-law, Brian M Steiner.
