Mrs. Martha Elizabeth “Martie” Baker, Indianapolis, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the age of 83 years. Martie was born in Bedford, Indiana, a daughter of the late Clarence Frederick and Marilyn June (Crow) Adams.

Martie attended Emmanuel Church, Banta campus, where she participated in Bible study. She owned and operated Crimpers Beauty Salon for more than 20 years, building lasting relationships with the many people she welcomed through her doors.

Martie found joy in gardening, reading, and watching reality television, with “Say Yes to the Dress” being her favorite show of all time. She had a special talent for decorating her home during the Christmas season, creating a festive atmosphere that reflected her love of the holidays. A devoted dog lover, she raised several beloved furry companions throughout her life.

Martie treasured the opportunity to take girls’ trips with her beloved friends, traveling throughout the United States and making memories along the way. Martie will be remembered as a social butterfly who possessed an easygoing nature and a positive attitude. Above all, she made certain her family was cared for, even when doing so required personal sacrifice. She was especially proud of her beloved grandchildren and cherished her role as their grandmother.

Martie will be dearly missed and forever cherished by those she leaves behind.

Martie is survived by her husband, Jerry Baker; her children, Julie (Mike Lee) Allen and Beth Baker May; her grandchildren, Connor (Sharon Barry-McCullough) Allen and Rileigh May; her grandson-in-law, Jay Burkett; her step-granddaughter, Eryn (Spencer) Mielke; as well as her great-grandchildren, CJ and Tommy.

In addition to her parents, Martie was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Keelie Burkett, and her sister, Marinell Leech.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
