Martha Ellen Gardner, age 86 of Greenwood, died at 7:07pm, Monday February 23rd at the home of her son in The Villages, FL. Martha was born September 14, 1922 in Hammond, Indiana to Carl and Epsie (Padgett) Cokenour. On September 1, 1944, she married Wayne Gardner. Martha was past Exemplar of Beta Sigma Phi serving in Whiteland and The Villages, Florida Chapters. She was also active in Red Hat Society and Greenwood Lodge 2079 Ladies of Moose. She is survived by four sons: Larry (Diane) Gardner, Randy (Pam) Gardner, Ron Gardner and Bob (Tolu) Gardner; a brother George (Annie) Cokenour; two sisters-in-law, Mary Reed and Nell Durham; 14 Grandchildren and 23 Great-Grandchildren. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be Friday, February 27th from 4-8 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135 in Greenwood. Services will be conducted by Rev. Tom Hamilton Saturday at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with entombment following in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. Memorials can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
