Mary Frances Baker, Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023. She was 90 years old. Mary was born in Indianapolis, IN to her parents Lewis and Nellie Whitaker. She graduated from Southport High School, class of 1951. Mary married her husband, Charles Baker, in May of 1952 and they shared 41 years of marriage together until Charles passed away in 1993.
Mary worked as an engineer for AT&T and retired in 1993 after over 25 years of service. Mary enjoyed trying her luck at the casinos, camping and fishing. Mary was a lifelong Republican and a loyal watcher of Fox News Channel. Mary's friendly nature allowed her to continue her love of children all throughout her life. Mary will be dearly missed by those she leaves behind.
Mary is survived by her son, Mark (Rosalyn) Baker Sr.; her grandchildren, Mark (Angie) Baker, Jr., Amy (Nathan) Schneider, Chris (Tiffany) Smith, Stephen (Alma) Smith, Scott (Jasmyn) Hanes; her great grandchildren, Mike (Holly) Bruner, Keelie (Brian) Wagner, Braeden Baker, Kenzie Baker, Tyler McClellan, Danielle Helmick, David Helmick, Stephen Smith, Jr.; her siblings, Clifford Whitaker and Sandra Cooney; her several nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles W. Baker; her daughter, Karen Hanes; her siblings, Jack, Kenneth, Larry and Cecil Whitaker.
A visitation for Mary will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home from 10:00 to 12:00. The funeral service will be on Monday, August 28, 2023 at 12:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 1:00 pm.
The family requests all in attendance to plan to dress casually for the visitation and funeral service.
