Mary Lu (Hanson) Cox, 83 of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family January 17, 2015.
Mary Lu was born October 24, 1931, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Russell Hanson and Helen Bell. She loved to say she was born in Milwaukee, raised in Kansas City and grew up in Indianapolis.
She is survived by her six children, Susan Jenkins (Dennis) of Zionsville, John Cox (Karen) of Cumberland, David Cox (Tina) of Franklin, Julie Caulfield (Michael) of West Chester, PA, Anita Mattox of Ormond Beach FL, and LuAnne Moore of Minneola, FL; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; by a brother, Robert Hanson (Flo) of Ocala, Florida, and by her wonderful companion of 9 years, her beloved Yorkie, Charley.
Preceding her in passing were her parents, and a brother, James Hanson.
She graduated from Arsenal Technical High School while working at Fletcher Savings and Trust; she also worked at Sherman Drive Chiropractic Clinic, and for 23 years in Medical Records at the Indiana University Medical Center, retiring in 2002.
Mary Lu was a passionate supporter of Indiana sports teams and enjoyed following the Fever, Pacers, Colts and Notre Dame Football, but most of all she was a great fan of Peyton Manning. She enjoyed knitting, working Sudoku, Mahjong and cross word puzzles.
Above all, she loved her family, and was a wonderful mother to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Always positive and pleasant, she lived her life fully with elegance, respect and kindness; she simply was the nicest person you could meet.
Mary Lu''s grandson, the Reverend Matthew R Cox, will conduct a celebration of life service for Mary Lu at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN. Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
