Obituary

Mary E. Sandlin, Franklin, IN, passed into the next life on Thursday, January 18, 2024. She was 91 years old. Mary was born in Alsboro, Alabama to parents Terry CohallWoodis and Mamie Elizabeth (Sledge) Woodis. Sheattended Central Heights High School in Florence Alabama. Mary married Donald Lee Sandlin on February 5, 1949. They shared 64 years of marriage until Donald passed away on September 21, 2013. She remained a widow
Mary's work experience varied throughout the years, working in fashion, banking, as a seamstress, and always volunteering as a Bible teacher to any who wanted to learn in formal and informal venues. As a homemaker, she enjoyed gardening, sewing, acrylic and watercolor painting, cooking, and put all her talents to practical use. She and Don also traveled extensively in the US as campers and hikers, but most memorable were their two trips to the Holy Land.
Mary was most recently a member of Victory Christian Church in Franklin, IN. Through the years Mary served as a Bible teacher, was a friend to the friendless, mentor to the hurting, gave hope to the hopeless, was a pastor to pastors, and was a faithful prayer warrior. Mary began serving church at age 21. She committed her life to spreading the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ, first in the Southern Baptist Convention in women's ministry and Sunday School teacher to co-leading inter-faith spiritual retreats in later years. Mary's selfless loving, and nurturing nature will be dearly missed.
Mary is survived by her children, Dorian (Julie) Sandlin and Frieda (Bruce) Dowler; her grandchildren, Erica (John) Whitmore, Vanessa (Kyle) Coffin, Joe Spears, Ralph Born, Rosemary Born, Joseph Dowler and Joshua Dowler; her great grandchildren, Eva, Iain, Oliver, Ben, Remy, Claire, Madilyn, and Carson; her several nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Lee Sandlin.
There will be no services at this time.
