Mr. Melvin Ray Conder, Greenwood, went Home to be with the Lord on the afternoon of Monday, September 5, 2022. He was 83. Melvin was born October 22, 1938 in Jasonville, Indiana, a son of the late James Lawrence Conder and Hazel Irene (Barton) Malone.
Melvin attended Jasonville High School and was a member of the graduating Class of 1956. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force and soon after his discharge began working for the Truck and Bus Division of General Motors as a crane signalman and retired after over 40 years of service.
Melvin was a member of Suburban Baptist Church where he served in several areas of ministry. He had served as a deacon and in the bus ministry where he also helped in bus maintenance. He was also involved in the AWANA program and also took certification classes in explosives in order to facilitate the annual Fourth of July fireworks display at the church. He was a member of the United Auto Workers and was an avid fan of the Indianapolis Colts, IU basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals. Melvin taught himself to operate the computer and enjoyed reading Western novels by Louis L'Amour. Life was never the same after the passing of his beloved wife, Lolah Laura Conder, as they did everything together but he remained content with life even with his personal health issues.
Melvin is survived by his children, Kevin (Joyce) Conder, Lorri (Joel) Turcios and Matthew (Adriana) Conder; his grandchildren, Malone Conder, Donovan (Sarah) Turcios, Parker Turcios, Zachary Conder, Russell Conder and Carissa Conder as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Melvin is preceded in passing by his wife, Lolah Laura Conder and his brother, James (Sue) Conder.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 pm, Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood. He will be laid to rest beside his wife at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens where a contingent from the United States Air Force will confer military honors.
